The Grantmaker's Toolkit Launched

grantmkr-toolkitPhilanthropy New Zealand's Grantmaker's Toolkit was launched in Auckland in March 2010, and was immediately put to good use providing the basis for two seminars on the Essentials of Grantmaking.

The Toolkit contains ideas, observations and challenges to support any grantmaker, whether a beginner or a seasoned player, whether staff, trustee, personal donor or advisor.

You will find practical information, worksheets and checklists, personal perspectives, and selected case studies of promising practices to illustrate successful work of grantmakers in the field.

At the Toolkit Launch co-author Genevieve Timmons said she expected the Toolkit to be used as a living document. "We deliberately set it in a ring binder so you would use it. We want you to add your knowledge and ideas to it. Use the notes sections, grab information from your peers and colleagues and stick it in. Because the one thing I have learnt about philanthropy is that you never stop learning."

Philanthropy New Zealand Chair, John Prendergast, noted the importance of such a valuable resource. "Now we have this Toolkit that is tailor made for our own philanthropy sector, with information, advice and wisdom written for every philanthropist and grantmaker in New Zealand, irrespective of shape and size," he said.

The two days of intensive seminars that followed the launch left no-one in doubt about the Toolkit's value. Over 40 people attended the Essentials of Grantmaking seminars, working intimately with the Toolkit's content. The days were so successful that Genevieve has agreed to hold another series of seminars in August 2010. Philanthropy New Zealand will keep you informed about those dates and venues.
